Pasture-Raised Broiler Chickens
“Freedom Rangers” is the name of the breed of chickens we raise for sale as broilers, and that name says it all.
Most chicken meat available today comes from Cornish Cross hybrids, which have been bred for the fastest possible growth without regard to the health of the birds or the flavor of the meat. The result: bland, tasteless meat from birds whose breasts grow so quickly that they can barely walk. Even when such birds are raised on pasture, they are poor foragers.
Our Freedom Rangers, by contrast, are descended from birds developed through the Label Rouge program in France to thrive when raised on pasture. They gain weight more slowly, so their legs can support them, and they have retained their instinct to forage for grass and insects, allowing them to make the most of our pasture system.
The result for you is chicken that really tastes just like chicken!
We expect to raise 3 batches of Freedom Rangers this year, making them available to you in July, late August, and mid-October. See order form for details.
